Folks – it’s been a fantastic week promoting 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 and many thanks to everyone who’s engaged and bought the book already.

𝟱. 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹: Growth that leaves people behind creates political backlash and social division; inclusion is a lens through which all activities must be assessed.

𝟲. 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹: Net zero has moved to the core of economic development; every major investment and strategy decision carries climate implications that demand consideration.

𝟳. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Every place has innovative capacity; deliberate effort to build ecosystems, connections, and supportive conditions is required to realise it.

𝟴. 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹: Skills shortages constrain growth and mismatches waste potential; every economic development programme should incorporate a skills component.

𝟵. 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁, 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Rather than awaiting perfect policy, focus energy on controllable local delivery while advocating for improvements.

𝟭𝟬. 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Hold a 10–20 year vision and a 90-day action plan simultaneously; vision without action is fantasy, action without vision creates chaos.
